Here's some information about Princess Mako, presented in markdown format with linked terms:
Princess Mako of Akishino
Princess Mako, formerly known as Her Imperial Highness Princess Mako of Akishino, was born on October 23, 1991. She is the eldest child of Crown Prince Fumihito, Prince Akishino, and Crown Princess Kiko. Mako is the niece of Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
She studied at the International Christian University in Tokyo, earning a degree in Art and Cultural Heritage. She also studied at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. She then went to the University of Leicester where she earned her Masters degree in Art Museum and Gallery Studies.
In 2021, she married Kei Komuro, a commoner. Because Japanese imperial law stipulates that a female member of the imperial family loses her royal status upon marrying a commoner, she relinquished her title and became Mako Komuro. This led to significant public attention and controversy in Japan due to media coverage of Komuro's background and financial matters. Due to the controversy, she declined the traditional dowry given to female royal family members upon their marriage.
Following their marriage, Mako and Kei Komuro moved to New York City, where Kei Komuro works at a law firm. Mako is now working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
